Discuss state-of-the art imaging in the detection and treatment of lung cancer. Imaging-based screening for lung cancer has been controversial with both promise and limitations; the National Cancer Institute is currently sponsoring the National Lung Screening Trial comparing chest X-rays to computed tomography (CT). They discuss the role of non-invasive PET/CT for monitoring anti-cancer therapy after the diagnosis using tracers to follow cancer metabolism as well as the implications of this imaging technique for monitoring treatments and improving therapy outcomes.
